What is drama and movement therapy?

Rachel and Becci are both trained in the Sesame Approach to dramatherapy, underpinned by Jungian and developmental psychology. Our way of working offers an indirect approach which very often feels less exposing and overwhelming. Drama and movement therapy is a bespoke creative arts psychotherapy that involves working with story, movement, art, music, sound, play and spontaneity. The Sesame Approach uniquely offers Movement with Touch and Sound as a way of working, working particularly well with those who may be non-verbal.

What people say
Becky, Deputy Mayor and Co-founder, Development Manager of charity

Give space delivered an amazing workshop for our clients - it was as if we received a gift that everyone opened the gift of how to combat fear, isolation, emotions and the challenging times ahead, of Christmas in Covid-19. Emotions were unlocked and expressed, laughter filled the room and healing started taking place. A lifeline had been given.

The workshop equipped everyone with the ability, a new lease on life that they could manage!! One amazing gift that stood out was the ability for Give Space to adjust to all our clients' needs - those that struggled with communication, those that didn't, those physically struggling, those emotionally struggling- the delivery and workshop was impeccable.

J, a client; "When the world is so complicated the simple gift of friendship is within our hands. Thank you Give Space we can't wait to have you again!".

Cllr Teji Barnes, London Borough of Hillingdon

I have had the chance to participate in an online event run by Becci and Rachel who are two, local and extremely qualified dramatherapists. The event which coincided with International Women's Day 2021 was called Power and Strength. The one-hour session got us to delve into who we are so that we could explore strengths of a role of a woman and identify the power that gave us, by making us aware we hold it within. I then got the chance to meet the two women Becci and Rachel on a one to one and see for myself how qualified, passionate and committed they are to engaging with people of all ages using dramatherapy. I truly recommend giving some time to Give Space as you will not be disappointed. This type of therapy is crucial in helping with all types of mental health concerns and early intervention can show the greatest achievements.

Jo Burns, Young Carers Manager – Carers Trust Hillingdon

We began working with Give Space in May 2021 when we collaborated on a funding bid with a view to providing drama and movement therapy to a group of young adult carers. Becci and Rachel were extremely professional, helpful, flexible and organised throughout both planning and delivery of the programme and the outcomes for the young people who participated have been remarkable. We would not hesitate to recommend Give Space and look forward to working in partnership with them in the future. Thank you!

Head of Year 8 - Secondary School

The set up and organisation of the Give Space workshop was super easy. The communication beforehand was very smooth.

Rachel and Becci delivered the workshop for a group of our Y8 girls. The girls were selected as they struggle with their self esteem. The atmosphere of the workshop was very inviting and supportive - couldn't be better to get the girls opening up. A day later the girls didn't have anything but praise and particularly liked the starter activity and the conversations with Becci and Rachel. They told me that they loved the workshop and would like to have another one if possible. All of them - without exception.

Give Space - thank you ever so much for investing in these young precious souls.

Wellbeing workshop participant

I took part in the power and strength workshop which was a women only event as it run the week of international women’s week. The workshop looked into how we feel empowered as a woman, looking at different women in different roles and how we recognise power and strength in them. It is not something that I usually can spend an hour thinking about due to work commitments and Im so glad I took the time as I thoroughly enjoyed it! It left me thinking about the topics of discussion for the rest of that evening. I would highly recommend Becci and Rachel and their workshops provided through give space.

Pastoral Support and Safeguarding Officer - Primary School

We have successfully been working in partnership with Give Space for the last few years, we have been very fortunate to develop and implement several interventions. All children have responded to the interventions and have shown real improvement in their ability to explore relationships and regulate their feelings.

As a school, our children, families and staff have already gained so much from working with Give Space. The therapists are always professional, proactive and incredibly generous with their time and support. They easily adapt to the flexibility of school life and show complete commitment to the care of some of our most vulnerable children. We look forward to continuing our work together.

Group therapy participant

A most wonderful experience, well worth it in every way.

Over my time in therapy I have learned perspective after hearing others' stories. It is ok not to be ok. To be open in order to receive. It helps to talk (and listen). Important to have a safe space.

It has been a fantastically positive experience, that I felt comfortable enough to open up. A safe space to be vulnerable. The group were warm and supportive. Becci and Rachel are compassionate, encouraging and inclusive. I would recommend the sessions to all those in need. Thank you.
